Update #2: It's Possible to Host a Wemos Mini Inside the Housing After All Several users asked if it would be possible to rework the design so that it could accommodate an Node MCU. Fortunately, that won't work as it turns out. Nonetheless, we were able to fit in a small Wemos Mini, thus the new design now has space for this board. A separate tray is provided which can support any ESP8266 model. Update #1: Collaborate on Customized Widget App Designs and Code With an ESP8266 and a 128x64 OLED display at your disposal, you're all set to build one of these nifty units without breaking the bank – they come in at a mere five dollars. The unit fetches information from the internet using WLAN and then displays it on the OLED screen. To host the electronics, we have designed two main options. First option features only the OLED display and an ESP 8266 board (Model: ESP-03), while the second one comes equipped with both an OLED display and an Arduino Mini Pro. We did not make the switch more complex by integrating a separate circuit for the ESP. Housing Construction: In order to print the housing, use the highest resolution possible (0.2mm). Make sure to use multiple solid layers as this will prevent the object from warping in future – six was what I opted for over three solid layers in this instance. Final Touches: After a long sanding process and applying a protective acetone treatment that lasted roughly 1.5 hours, you should have your unit looking pristine and new! Installing Code on Your Unit Those familiar with the programming can get to work without any hitches right away. In case not everyone has prior experience or prefers an alternative method, numerous coding options are readily available online by searching "ESP8266 OLED SSD1306". As it happens, the same website from which we borrowed some useful tips is actually one of the top hits you'd come across: http://blog.squix.ch/2015/05/esp8266-projects-internet-connected.html.
