Desk Organizer and Phone Stand.
thingiverse
This is a desk organizer for keeping essential school items in one place. When I do my homework, especially complex projects, my workspace becomes a complex stack of papers, scissors, pens, and books. This holder keeps things organized and it offers a place to charge my phone while I work. I designed this holder to have many functions; it is a phone stand with charging capabilities, pen holder, paperclip/pushpin holder, scissor holder, tape dispenser, and a great place to attach sticky notes. The main idea is to keep things separate so virtual learners can spend less time searching for things, that is important, because it is very hard to pay attention to a video chat and work at home. The biggest issues that I ran across were mostly due to my relative inexperience on the CAD software. I was not allowed to perform various actions due to disagreements in geometry that I did not fully understand. They were rookie mistakes but I learned a lot from this project. If I were to redesign this project, I would make the base in three separate pieces that would connect with a dovetail joint. That would make it more modular and easy to print. I would also design the phone stand with a specific phone and charger in mind, versus using the universal sizing approach. 3D printing would be the fastest and cheapest way to produce this design. Machining, casting, and even clay modeling, would take longer, cost more, or yield inferior products. 3D printing would also strengthen my design as I can increase density in places of high stress to improve strength, and I can decrease density in places of low stress to save on weight.
