Desk Organizer
thingiverse
The intended purpose of this design is to help organize a desk or learning space in a time of remote learning and working. The 3D design helps organize any desk space by providing space for a phone, pens/pencils, a notepad, and two staggered pockets for office supplies. The design creates a location where you can have your most important items within reach, while keeping everything organized. While I was modeling this desk organizer, I crossed many challenges. The challenges I crossed arose from the practical abilities of the desk organizer and the ergonomic design of the organizer itself. My first major challenge occurred from the practical ability of the desk organizer. At the beginning of the design phase, I couldn't decide on what aspects to include in the final design. I eventually narrowed the options down, and the most practical aspects made it into the final design. A second major challenge that I crossed was the actual overall design. I had three main designs; two of them were bulky, impractical, and not user friendly. The third design is easy to use, user friendly, and even proved to be ergonomic. This was just a few of the design challenges I crossed and overcame. If I was given the opportunity to redesign my model, I would change the pattern of the dedicated spaces. I would first move the pencil/pen holder to behind the pockets and notepad holder. Then, I would then raise the level of the pencil/pen holder to stagger the heights of the build. Due to the new location of the holder, the design of the holder would change to a rectangle with the spaces for pencils/pens in a 1x6 pattern. Next, I would shift the phone holder over and still have it angled toward the user. Finally, I would increase the angle of the actually phone holder. This would allow for the phone to be viewed at a more natural eye level. If I had the opportunity to change my design, that is what I would change. 3D printing would help strengthen my design as it puts my design plans into reality. 3D printing would allow me to print a model and make design changes. The only way to keep growing as a designer is to keep designing until you've created something you believe is perfect. The only way to do this is to make a prototype and begin your fine tuning process, and 3D printing could be a great start to doing this.
