Desk Extender

The Iowa State 3D Printing & Design Club, under the guidance of Emmanuel Agba, has proposed a solution for the desk space issues in lecture halls. The average lecture hall desk is often too small to accommodate test materials and writing space comfortably. To address this problem, they designed an extension that can be easily placed on top of the existing desk. This extension measures 215.9 mm x 228.6 mm x 17.78 mm and provides additional room for papers, calculators, formula sheets, and a pencil holder. The design also features a hole on the top face to hang a calculator or water bottle, and a groove on the front face to sharpen pencils. The extension is lightweight and can be easily transported in a book bag. They provided two versions of the base file for printing: one at full scale and another at 80% scale with enlarged parts as needed. The desk can be printed using PLA, ABS, or PETG materials. Their prototype was made using PLA, which provided a smooth writing surface and durability.
