Design for Anti-Warp of ABS Parts

To combat warping of ABS 3D prints, understand that temperature differentials cause shrinkage and bending. Long profiles at the top of parts away from the build plate are particularly susceptible to this. To minimize the issue, break up these long sections using notches or redesign the part for flat surfaces. For example, an 8-inch optical bench was printed flat with notches and a warped jig was redesigned to reduce long runs of plastic. The formula for calculating change in length due to thermal expansion is (coefficient x length x temperature change).
