A straightforward design for a desiccant holder is presented here, featuring a central tube that serves both functional and aerodynamic purposes by increasing air surface area contact. The intended size range for the desiccant beads is 3-5mm in diameter, specifically "Blue Indicating Silica Gel" as found on https://www.silicagel.com.au/1-kg-blue-silica-gel-beads-self-indicating/. The accompanying photographs showcase a first prototype with clearance between the lid and body connections. However, this initial design did not hold well under test conditions, prompting a redesign with an internal thread (M18x2.5) on the core tube matching a corresponding thread on the lid, as seen in the Section screen image. Printing without supports works seamlessly for this design; it is essential to flip the lid so that its flat surface faces downwards when slicing the model yourself. In a comparison test, I found that the original design did not perform as well as an identical setup used by Prusament. Consequently, I have updated both the Gcode and STLs (V7), which are now available for download. This initial prototype was created to evaluate the printing of slots. The full-scale version is specifically designed to fit snugly inside a Prusament spool core hole. For reference, see the complete design at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3620185. If you require access to the Fusion 360 file for this project, I am more than happy to share it upon request.
