Desiccant Box - Easy Print (No Retractions)
thingiverse
A simple, easy print desiccant box for using in dry boxes to keep filament or other goods dry. I made this thing because of two reasons: 1. I was sick of emptying all the spools out of boxes, to take the desiccant from the bottoms of the boxes to dry it. This was a huge hassle with over 40kg of filament to move around and store. Moreover, when the filament was outside of the dry boxes it was subject to further moisture ingress. Therefore I wanted a removable box, printed in high temp filament that I can fire in the oven to dry. Mess free. 2. All other desiccant box options relied on heavy amounts of retraction with slotted sides. This is a terrible idea as it increases print time exponentially, and makes for weak parts and easy print failures due to jams from all the retractions. Therefore, with these two requirements in mind, I've created a box and used upward facing louvres. Louvres will still allow air around the desiccant, and does not huge reduce the open area, but what it does do is allow a constant path for the print head without retractions. Printing with no support means the louvres are bridged easily with PLA or PETG. I print these in ABS or PETG so that I can lift the box out once it's spent, and pop them all in the oven, in their boxes at 70C (PETG) or 90C (ABS) to dry them out, then fire them back in to the filament boxes, one in each corner.
