The IMI Desert Eagle is a distinctive semi-automatic handgun that uses the largest centerfire cartridge for any magazine-fed self-loading pistol. It features an unconventional triangular barrel and large muzzle. Magnum Research Inc. (MRI) developed this design, but Israel Military Industries initially manufactured it until 1995 when production moved to Saco Defense in Saco, Maine. In 1998, the contract reverted back to IMI, which later transformed into Israel Weapon Industries. Since 2009, the Desert Eagle Pistol has been produced at MRI's facility in Pillager, Minnesota, USA. Kahr Arms acquired Magnum Research in mid-2010.
