I recently posted my "SchraderFlatter" Schrader valve deflator - a screw-on replacement for a tire valve cap that holds the valve open so the tire can be deflated when needed for service without manually holding it open with a small screwdriver or Allen key (hex wrench). Well, no sooner did I start using it than I realized even with reduced threads on that design, it was still too slow to work with, as it had to be threaded on. What about something that would push on and lock in place, then easily remove when the tire is flat? Enter SchraderFlatter - quick-release edition. It's about the same size as the original, but it simply pushes on, at which point the threads on the flexible portion grab onto the threads on the valve, holding it in place. When done, press the button on top, and it'll quickly release and pull off. What is this used for? When working on a bike, there are many things that require removing the tire when not already flat. Replacing a worn-out tire, doing service on the wheel, replacing a wheel, or replacing a broken spoke - all these need the tire to be deflated so it can be removed. I could stand there and hold the valve open until completely flat (I've done exactly that for years) but having a tool that takes this out of my hands allows me to work on something else while this is happening. I could install this tool and start deflating the tire while removing the wheel. A car mechanic could also use this to deflate a car tire, but in that case, there's a whole bunch more air volume so removing the valve core is likely a much faster solution. Note: Yes, this could be used for nefarious purposes by jerks. Don't be a jerk. Update 20 Jan 2020: I'm terrible at spelling. It's "Schrader", not "Schraeder".
