Der Pringles Max (Der Red Max)
thingiverse
In my ongoing series of Pringles can based rockets I present Der Pringles Max, an upscale of the Estes Der Red Max.This rocket can be built with either a 24mm or 29mm motor tube. It's a little heavy for the standard Estes D or E motors, though the simulations say it will fly on those. I'd recommend a larger E, such as an E30. Or build it with a 29mm motor tube and have at thee!UPDATE: I've created a mash up between this iconic rocket and the Honest John. Just print the associated "Hojo" parts, and three of the fins without lugs (as opposed to 2). I've included the decals I used for mine. These are based on painting the rocket in Rustoleum "Oregano" green if you want to duplicate the looks. Otherwise you'll have to do your own decals. To build this rocket you will need:Two Pringles Cans. I recommend the regular flavor "Party Stack" can for the base tube as it's the correct color and is longer than the regular cans. For the second can you can use any Pringles sized can. You'll only need 100mm of it (assuming you used a "Party Stack" for the main tube).Either a 24mm or 29mm motor tube.A motor retainer for the 29mm tube (parts for a retainer are included for the 24mm tube)Shock cord (I used kevlar line)Parachute (I used a 24" nylon chute)And of course the parts in this design. Note there are parts with a 24 and parts with a 29 in the name, those denote the two motor tube sizes and you will only need to use the ones matching the motor tube you use. The motor retainers are only for the 24mm size. There are two fins for each size, one with lugs and one without. Print two of the ones without lugs and one lug fin. Unless you plan to use your own lugs or rail guides, in which case print three lugless fins. Except for the lugs, the fins are identical.Construction tips:If you're using a 24mm motor tube, cut it to 95mm (the length of an Estes E). This way the engine block piece can glue to the top to both block the top of the motor tube and provide support for the tops of the fin tabs (there will be a gap there).Glue the motor retainer to the bottom of your motor tube then glue this through the appropriate fin support piece. You can now line your fins up against this piece and glue them to the motor tube. A second fin support piece could be used at the top to help align them.Use the fin slot guide on the bottom of the main body tube (flush with the bottom) to cut your fin slots out. After removing the guide finish the slots to the bottom of the body tube so the fin unit can slide in.Paint the shorter tube black before attaching it to the main tube using the included coupler part. The nose cone is a tall part, for those of you with shorter printers I've made a split version. There is a "White" and a "Clear" version of the decal sheets. Print them on white and clear decal paper respectively.I've not flown either of mine yet, but they sim out as stable in OpenRocket (I've provided both a 24 and 29mm version of those files). If you make this, please post a make and video as I've love to see them!First flight of the HoJo version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF_5yuWn4kI&t=1m35sFirst flight of regular version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIOq_XBTMyI&t=7m39s2nd Hojo Flight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIOq_XBTMyI&t=6m32s
