Der große Bamberger Kreuzweg - Station 5

The Bamberger Kreuzweg (1500-1503) was donated by Heinrich Marschalk von Ebnetz zu Raueneck and is the oldest completely preserved Stations of the Cross. It leads in seven stations from the Hospital Church St. Elizabeth to the Dean's Church St. Getreu, and should allow believers to experience the suffering path of Christ in Jerusalem. At each station, the distance from Pilatus' House is engraved in steps. The fifth station is located at the intersection of Aufseßgasse with Michelsberg, embedded in the wall of the current Aufseesianum (former Aegidian Hospital). Veronica comes to Jesus from her house and offers him a cloth to wipe his sweat. It captures the moment when she returns the sweat cloth with the imprinted image of Jesus. You can see the heavy armor: halberd, war club, hippe. They wear contemporary clothing and armor around 1500.
