Demi-calebasse peinte
sketchfab
This oil-painted container was certainly brought back to the island of Re by a member of the penal administration. It belongs to a series of "souvenir objects" produced by prisoners in the Guiana penal colony. The top of the gourd is perforated and has a cord-like plant fiber that served as a suspension. This half-gourd, painted by a convict named Daniel Capbal, depicts a river scene certainly inspired by the Maroni. An indigenous person hunting ibises with a bow, canoes, and lush vegetation decor animate the landscape. A description far removed from the green hell of Guiana lived by the convicts. Inv. number: 2014.1.2 from the collections of the Ernest Cognacq Museum in Saint-Martin de Re (17 - France). 3D digitization: scanner Spider - Artec3D
