Deltic Remix

This remix of the Deltic engine, created by Zefram, is a revised version that addresses several issues I had with the original design. The changes focus on improving the ease of turning the engine over, reducing its size, and minimizing the need for supports in various components. The redesigned engine has been scaled down to 60% of its original size. The base is specifically sized to accommodate 608 bearings from skateboard or fidget spinner kits available on Amazon at a low cost. These bearings can be easily installed using a vise. A unique feature of this remix is the driveshaft, which protrudes from the underside of the base and serves as a prop for holding the engine upright. This allows users to turn the gears either manually or by attaching them to a hand drill. To address the issue of print supports, I have redesigned several components to be printed without any supports. However, these parts will require some assembly using CA adhesive and possibly accelerant. The dual main bearing conrod can be printed in two halves and then glued together. A drill must still be run through the main bearing hole for smooth operation. The gudeon pins, which secure the piston to the conrod, are made from leftover 1.75mm filament that is melted at both ends using a soldering iron. Excess material is then removed with a craft knife. I have also removed index points from the gears, allowing users to easily rotate the cranks against the gears until they reach the correct position and secure them with CA adhesive. This approach eliminates the need for specific liner markings found in the original design. The revised engine's instructions are included in the Sketchup file, which is labeled with part names. Users should refer to the original instructions by Zefram for guidance on print quantities and other assembly details. Credit goes to the original designer, Zefram, for creating an inspiring base that I hope will motivate users to build their own unique versions of this engine.
