Abstract Additive manufacturing has benefited a wide range of different fields, both scientific and consumer, but one area that is lacking is in geography. Standard geographical maps have remained the on same 2-dimensional (2d) flat piece of paper for years and as of yet there are no standards for 3-dimensional (3d) versions of these maps. These 2d to 3d maps can be modeled of existing topographical maps and then 3d printed using plastic or another material. The purpose of this paper is to show that by following a set of standards, a traditional 2d map can be formed into a 3d map in order to show different kinds of detail that on a 2d map could be hard to understand or not easily conveyed. Connecting the parts There is an attached photo of how the parts connect to one another. I mounted the map on a piece of foam board and the final map is around 14cm x 14.7cm x 3cm in size.
