This filament holder is essentially a thrust bearing that works similarly to a machine's bearings, allowing the movement of parts with minimal friction. After careful consideration, I realized that printing ball bearings might not produce optimal results, but it's feasible to create a tapered roller bearing instead. My Mk2 design achieves this by replacing the steel balls found in my original concept with tapered rollers. Additionally, this updated version includes retainer clips that allow for easy movement of the races without compromising the entire assembly. This versatile design can be used in multiple applications and even supports vertical orientation, although it may not offer the same load-bearing capacity as its steel ball counterpart. Nevertheless, the load-bearing capacity can be enhanced by incorporating more rollers into the system.
