The DeLorean DMC-12 is commonly referred to simply as the DeLorean since it was the only model ever produced by John DeLorean's company. This American sports car was manufactured specifically for the American market from 1981–83 by DeLorean Motor Company, founded by John DeLorean. The DeLorean features gull-wing doors and a revolutionary fiberglass chassis along with an underbody structure, all wrapped in a sleek brushed stainless steel body. Its iconic appearance as a modified time machine in the Back to the Future film trilogy catapulted it into widespread recognition.
