I purchased a Wyse Z90DW thin client on eBay for the price of a Raspberry Pi, an incredibly affordable deal. I plan to repurpose it as a budget-friendly NAS (network attached storage device) system. To achieve this, I required a caddy that can hold hard drives since the case lacks provisions for them. In the future, I intend to acquire additional units and deploy a distributed file system like GlusterFS or Ceph, although FreeNAS would also be an excellent option. Given its specs, this thin client is significantly more robust than a Raspberry Pi: * It's equipped with an AMD G-T56N processor * Features an AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics card * Offers up to 8GB of RAM (with 2GB as the starting point) * Includes mPCIe, 2 x SATAIII, Ethernet, and USB3 connectivity I designed the caddy to be easy to install, accommodating one or two hard drives without requiring extensive case modifications. The rounded feet slide into place with ease, and the entire assembly is secured using case compression. The number of 2.5'' hard drives that can be accommodated depends largely on their thickness and the size of a right-angle SATA adapter used. To assemble this caddy, I had to clip off a retaining hook from the main case panel, but it's conveniently located next to a screw point. For further information and inspiration, I drew upon resources found at parkytowers.me.uk/thin/wyse/z/index.shtml. This design should be adaptable for most Z90 series models; however, it's essential to inspect the interior of your device to confirm compatibility.
