My employer recently upgraded my laptop to a Dell Latitude 5580. My previous laptop relied on the Dell PRO2X Docking Station, which forced me to dock it flat on my desk, taking up valuable space. This new laptop, however, uses a different docking station that connects with just one USB Type-C cable. I created this stand to store my 5580 vertically behind my monitor, utilizing unused space. Although I designed this for the 5580, it should work with any laptop that is no wider than one inch when closed. For example, it fits my old Dell laptop as well. Before designing my own stand, I searched Thingiverse for existing stands created by others. Two options caught my attention. One design used a lot of plastic and had curved legs that wouldn't fit underneath my monitor stand. The other required 6 mm stainless steel rod, which I didn't have on hand, and also featured curved legs that wouldn't fit. I decided to create my own stand instead, taking into account the limitations of these designs.
