A Zemí deity figure, dating approximately to 1000 AD, possibly originating from the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, belongs to the Taíno culture. This wooden (guaiacum sp.) sculpture with shell elements measures 68.5 cm in height, 21.9 cm in width and 23.2 cm in depth, and is classified as a wood-sculpture. It is part of The Michael C. Rockefeller Memorial Collection, bequeathed by Nelson A. Rockefeller in 1979. Its accession number is 1979.206.380. An initial scan was conducted by Tom Freudenheim during the NYC Museum MediaLab Meetup 3D Funday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, using the Sense 3D hand-held scanner, with a note that it may be rough. The figure can be found in the museum's collection database under accession number 312602.
