The DHC-8-100 model is nearly scaled to actual dimensions, featuring full texture and intricate detailing, making it ideal for animation purposes. This model includes animateable features such as landing gear, flaps, ailerons, elevators, rudder, and landing gear doors. It's available in 11 different formats. Originally developed from the Dash 7 series with short takeoff and landing capabilities, the Dash 8 is a twin-engine turbo-prop airliner suitable for regional short to medium haul routes, seating up to 39 passengers in the 100 series. Focusing on cruise and economy performance, the Dash 8 has become popular among small to medium sized carriers and airlines. Over 1000 have been ordered, with Bombardier predicting sales will reach around 1200 by 2016. However, production for the 100 series ended in 2005; the 200, 300, and 400 series are still being produced. There is potential for a stretched version of the 400, possibly named 500 or 600, to be developed soon. De Havilland sold Dash 8 production and licensing rights to Bombardier.
