The DHC-8-100 model is accurately scaled, featuring full texturing and detailed elements, making it an ideal subject for animation. It includes animateable features such as landing gear, doors, flaps, ailerons, elevators, and rudder. Available in 11 formats, this Dash 8 aircraft was developed from the Dash 7 series, focusing on short takeoff and landing capabilities. Seating up to 39 passengers, it is designed for regional short to medium haul routes. The Dash 8 series by De Havilland, now under Bombardier's production and licensing, has seen over 1000 orders, with expectations to reach around 1200 by 2016. Production for the 100 series ceased in 2005; however, the 200, 300, and 400 series continue production. There are plans for a potential stretched version of the 400 series in the near future.
