Defy Lab Oscillator v 1
thingiverse
This is version one of the Defy Lab Oscillator unveiled in grand style during the year 2017. It boasts a remarkable combination of 18 watch components into one singular device, primarily consisting of the balance wheel, spring, pallet fork, and regulator. This compliant mechanism functions solely based on its shape and flexure characteristics. I obtained the original design directly from C Yamahata's sketchfab page, then invested several months in modifying it to suit my Prusa 3D printer capabilities. The modification process took only a few hours, but mastering the software - Inkscape and Tinkercad required an extensive period of learning what is feasible. I eagerly anticipate a skilled clock/watch designer incorporating this mechanism into a fully functional timepiece. According to my understanding, energy from the power source is transmitted to the mechanism via the escapement wheel. For those interested in modifying this design, I have made it available on Tinkercad: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/3wJKHrrCrwg To successfully print this oscillator, three support posts are necessary. My attempts at shrinking the design were met with limited success; when reduced to smaller than 180 mm x 180 mm, certain fine components fail to print properly. Alternatively, it is possible to reduce the thickness of the oscillator, but doing so will cause the outer edge to sag - a minimum thickness of 2 mm being the optimal balance. This design was printed using .15 resolution and 90% infill, with PLA as the material choice.
