A thousand ornate steles rise from the Mongolian steppe. These "deer stones" erected by Bronze Age nomads gave birth to the first steppe empire. The Tsatsyn Ereg necropolis in Arkhangai Province is being studied by an international team as part of a joint archaeological mission between Monaco and Mongolia (led by Jerome Magail), under the direction of Monaco's Prehistoric Anthropology Museum and the Mongolian Academy of Sciences.
