Deer Antler, hi resolution scan

Deer Antler, hi resolution scan

thingiverse

This is a high-quality image of an antler taken from a deer. It measures approximately 12 inches wide by 17 inches tall, but can easily be resized to fit any printer's dimensions. I've positioned the scan in a favorable spot for printing, yet some adjustments will still be required. One clever technique to achieve a flat bottom layer is to lower the model into the bed in Z while slicing around 6mm from the surface. The slicer will then ignore everything below the bed and cut the model flat at that point, resulting in a perfect base layer. The scan was captured using a high-end David scanner (now owned by HP), which features stereo cameras and a turntable for precise imaging.
