Deemoss Puzzle Plane Remix with inner magnets
thingiverse
This is a remix of Deemoss's Puzzle Plane. I fell in love with the plane from the very first time I laid eyes on it, but I wasn't too fond of the fact that the magnets were glued right on top. So, I decided to give it a twist and create a version where the magnets are inside instead. As Deemoss pointed out in one comment, building it with magnets inside is definitely a tougher challenge. It's a lot harder because you need to plan your build carefully so you can insert the magnets into their pockets without any issues. Not only that, but using magnets inside also requires a whole lot more of them than the original design calls for. Deemoss's version uses 55 magnets, while this remix needs a whopping 109. In fact, I ended up running out of square magnets and had to use some disc magnets I'd picked up earlier. The extra magnets are necessary to strengthen the bonds between them because the gap created by the plastic reduces the attachment force between the magnets. I used rectangular magnets that measure 3mm x 5mm x 5mm, while the disc magnets are 3mm in diameter and 6mm thick. I made sure to leave a 0.3mm clearance between each magnet and the plastic, so you should have plenty of room to print out the magnet pocket without any issues.
