Decorative top piece for The Tudor Rose Box
thingiverse
The cover for my print of loubie's Tudor Rose Box had an annoying imperfection (a very distracting mark from where the masking tape joint was) so I created a decorative lid cap to conceal it. loubie's creation is historically accurate since in the Tudor period, furniture makers tended to use minimalist tops and save ornate details for side panels. I've incorporated loubie's four-pointed star on top of my lid cap to better complement the design of the box. Adding an extra rose would have worked but a more understated look fits this project much better. Instructions Printed with PLA in high resolution 0.2mm layer height for added texture 20% density for stability 60mm/s print speed, 150mm/s retraction To achieve the gold finish I printed my pieces black and applied hairspray to give each part a tacky surface, then used gold pigment powder and a soft brush to paint it all over. A final sealant layer with clear acrylic spray topped it off.
