Decorative Shelf Bracket. This shelf bracket is designed to attach securely to a wall (gypsum board) using small nails like those packaged with OOK brand museum picture hangers sold at Big Blue and Orange Box Stores. The included SCAD file is preset to generate the shelf bracket at 185mm long x 185mm tall x 20mm wide x 5 mm thick, but can be easily customized. I printed this using OrbPoly's Lion Bronze filament, which provides excellent strength in compression (the only parts that flex are the overhangs). The print is laid down horizontally, so the Z-axis only needs to lift to 20mm. A small brim and supports are also used on the build plate. However, I encountered issues with adhesion at the joint where the two 90-degree arms meet, which may have been caused by a piece of masking tape directly under the glass at that point (it's visible in the build pictures). I'm also struggling with bridging the 45-degree decorative angle piece that sat on the support, resulting in an unsightly appearance. If you have any suggestions to improve these areas, please share your thoughts in the comments below. Print Settings: Printer: Wanhao Duplicator i3/Monoprice Maker Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 15% Notes: 210 C Nozzle, 70 C heated bed, 60mm per second Post-Printing: Attach the shelf bracket to the wall by printing two and then securing them with four small-diameter nails (preferably those that come with museum picture hangers, rated for 30lb loads), along with a piece of wood to span across the brackets. The nails are approximately 1 inch long and about 3/64" (1.3mm) in diameter. How I Designed This: Using OpenSCAD, I created modules to support the museum picture hanger nails. I added a module for laying out two bars at 90 degrees from each other and another module for the 45-degree angle portion, which consists of two large hollow cylinders scaled into ellipses that intersect with a cube fitting within the space made by the two 90-degree arms.
