Decorative Lantern
sketchfab
This model was my second attempt at replicating a real-world object using 3D modeling techniques. Initially, I thought creating a lantern would be a straightforward exercise in practice, but it turned out to be more demanding than anticipated. However, the experience was still enjoyable. The entire model was created using splines, aside from the wooden plank and electric candle. Throughout this project, I acquired numerous spline modeling skills that I'm eager to apply in future projects. Achieving a precise hexagonal pattern on the glass was another challenge I faced. To overcome it, I developed a method of creating the pattern, then converting it into a normal map using Photoshop. This normal map was subsequently combined with my other maps in Substance Painter.
