Decorative Halloween Bat
thingiverse
A decorative Halloween Bat hangs effortlessly from the wall, secured by running fishing line through its eyes. This simple method ensures the bat remains perfectly level, a testament to clever design. Tie the line ends together and hang from a sturdy hook, allowing the bat to dangle at roughly 35 degrees. I've shared two distinct versions of this design, each with its own unique features. Version 1 requires no additional supports, but does necessitate a counterbalance attached to the back side of the tail to maintain the perfect angle. Version 2, on the other hand, doesn't require a counterbalance at all. The tail is thicker than the wings and head, naturally drawing it downwards to achieve the desired pose. Personally, I found removing the supports from the backside too tedious for my liking. However, scaling this design to 50% using 100% infill has proven effective. Printing at full scale may allow for reduced infill, but experimenting with different counterbalance infill percentages may be necessary. My instinct tells me to maintain the angle as designed by infilling the counterbalance identically to the bat. Adjusting the scaling, thickness, or thinness of the counterbalance can help achieve a custom angle that suits your taste. *Update* A few prints experienced issues with coming loose from the bed after reaching only 1mm in thickness. Without proper texture on top, they didn't finish as expected. Despite this, my wife decided to hang them anyway and surprisingly, we both ended up liking their unique appearance. I've uploaded a basic version of the bat, sans facial accents and at 1mm thick (including a counterbalance). Feel free to scale it as thin or thick as you prefer.
