Decorative Butterfly
thingiverse
I sought a butterfly with distinctive patterns on its wings that could be solid in color to ensure it would print clearly at a smaller size without running into resolution problems. To create this image, I used Photoshop and Illustrator, incorporating a beautiful illustration of a butterfly from a book written by the renowned 17th-century female insect illustrator Maria Sibylla Merian, who was also an early feminist pioneer. The foundation for the butterfly's basic shape came from Metamorphosis insectorum Surinamensium, Plate LX, published in 1705; however, I designed the intricate wing patterns myself, freehanding them to achieve a unique look.
