Decoration for original Prusa USB Flash Drive
prusaprinters

This is a stunning decoration featuring hex pattern that you can clip on the original USB flash drive that is provided by default with the Prusa Mini. It's not stunning for the design but because it helps intuitively finding the proper orientation while inserting the USB Drive. That was a nightmare to me. I printed my Prusa Mini Base but I did not want to relocate the USB connector and power switch since they are much safer on the side back. Instead of this is decided to design this decoration and now I know the USB drive has to be inserted with the hex pattern visible.

Printing

I recommend printing the model from the bottom end on the bed. This orientation will print nicely but still requires minimal support for the key ring hole upper overhang.

Then I recommend printing with .4 nozzle and .1 layer height. Fill density can be set to 0%, there should be no space for filling anyway. I removed the skirt but added a 3 mm brim and support to be enabled. The area that requires support have already been highlighted on the 3MF file provided.

Post Processing

The model is thin and removing the support is quite delicate. I recommend following the below steps.

Remove the brim and outside support raft

Look the model from the bottom end and use a thin blade to cut between the inside support raft and the model. The support raft should not be touching the model but use the blade to make sure it is free.

Use a small clamp to twist the support columns on the keyring hole on the side. Do both side one by.

Once both columns are twisted on the side, take both columns between your fingers and twist on the backside. At this step, the entire support should detach in one piece.

Remove the stringing into the hex pattern if any.

Installation

Insert your flash drive into your printer and locate the proper orientation. Make sure to install the decoration with the hex pattern visible after removing it.

Slide the bottom end of the flash drive on the bottom hole of the decoration.

Clip the décoration on the flash drive body and facilitate the insertion by gently bending the two sides of the decoration.

Plug the the flash drive back and just forget about the hex pattern all insertions are going to happen smoothly now!
