The intricately ornamented four-knobbed carved stone sphere stands out as one of Scotland's finest. Discovered in a field between New Scone and Murrayshall, Perth, Scotland, this treasure was gifted to Perth Museum in November 1832 by John Murray of Murrayshall. Initially brought to light by John Alexander Smith in 1874 through the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland (https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/archiveDS/archiveDownload?t=arch-352-1/dissemination/pdf/vol_011/11_029_062.pdf), it has been a prized possession ever since. Date: Late Neolithic c.3200-2500 BC This stunning artefact is proudly showcased in Perth Museum and Art Gallery. Accession Number: PM 1290 B Measuring 67 mm in diameter, this masterpiece weighs an impressive 444 g. Crafted by Dr Hugo Anderson-Whymark from 210 images captured with a Canon 70d equipped with a 60mm macro lens.
