The ancient deathmask was unearthed during a renovation project at a Minster in Northern England. Analysis reveals that it is crafted from a durable plaster and stone composite. Repair lines on the mask are faintly visible, testifying to its age. Remnants of paint and possibly gilding still linger in small areas across the face, offering hope for a fully-realised digital restoration – one that brings the painted model back to life.
