Death Star With Hinge
thingiverse
I helped my friend with a Star Wars themed ring box for a wedding, and this project was exactly what they needed! I just added a small hinge to the back of it. Print Settings Rafts: No Supports: No Notes: I printed both the hinge and top together so the plastic could solidify before adding more layers. If I were smarter, I would have also printed the bottom at the same time. Post-Printing After finishing the print, you may need to clean up some excess material. From another design on thingiverse, I used a jeweler's screw to clear out the hinge hole by heating it and inserting it into the hinge. I also applied this method to clean up the sides of the hinge. There is a slight wobble in the lid, but if you make it tighter, it might not fit together at all. All you have to do next is add some 3mm filament as a pin by clipping off a piece from a spool and inserting it into place. Then either print some caps or melt the ends so it stays securely in position. I haven't designed anything for 1.75mm filament yet, but if there's enough demand, I'd be happy to create one. The top didn't stay perfectly flat (minor gap), so all you need is some added weight at the front of the lid to keep it down. How I Designed This I took inspiration from a Pokeball design with a button-release lid and adapted it for this Star Wars themed ring box.
