This remix of the Death Star Laser Turret features an advanced multi-part assembly with a cam profile embedded in the tower base. The design allows the guns to automatically elevate up and down as you turn the turret around, creating a dynamic and engaging experience. The destroyed tower version that is stored inside the piece is included for added realism and authenticity. Additionally, I've incorporated an alternative Halo MegaBlok adaptation base for versatility. It's essential to thermally calibrate your filament for this assembly to work optimally. As you turn the turret, the weight of the guns will gradually lower them down after the cam profile raises them. This process occurs every 90 degrees of rotation, creating a smooth and seamless motion. To ensure proper functionality, extensive surface preparation is necessary. Remove the squish layer edge from all parts, ensuring the gun barrel pivot is smooth and the cam profile is equally smooth. Perform test fittings with the gun in the turret, locking them in place when they fall back down on their own accord. The turret hub can be pushed into the turret by gently pushing it with the tower hub. Although it may require some effort, you can carefully push it back out by raising the guns all the way up and applying gentle pressure downward. Two versions of the tower base are included: one with a self-supporting layer for the cam profile that doesn't necessitate supports if you can span 15mm of bridge, and another version where the profile is cut through, requiring additional supports. The self-supporting layer makes it easier to smooth out the cam profile, and hobby files and a sharp hobby knife work well for the clean-up process. The tower hub will initially be tight, but carefully working on the area where the turret snaps over it ensures that the turret sits snugly yet moves freely and smoothly as it turns.
