Death Star - a Christmas tree decoration ("like-a-box" version)

thingiverse

Hi everybody, this model is a remix of the following one: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:117733\r\n\r\nWhat I've changed:\r\n1) Reduced part count to 2 by joining upper half and cannon's plate\r\n2) Created large cavities inside both top and bottom parts for electronics, LEDs, and batteries\r\n3) Made a screw-thread connecting hemispheres for easy opening and closing of the sphere.\r\n\r\nYou can also download the source in .step format supported by many 3D editors.\r\n\r\nMy version is an autonomous Christmas tree decoration with a simple electronic circuit based on ATMega8A controller changing LED brightness. It's powered by 2 AA batteries with a step-up voltage converter providing 5V.\r\n\r\nThe LEDs configuration isn't canonical, I just added more colors. They're glued to the inner surface of hemispheres.\r\n\r\nAs for materials, transparent SBS Glass plastic was used (maybe it's called styrene-butadiene copolymer), becoming semi-transparent after printing and dissipating inner light.\r\n\r\nParts were covered with D-Limonene solvent then dried by a fan heater to achieve a glossy look.\r\n\r\nYou can find the video where it glows here: https://youtu.be/vEqVM-58rBE\r\n\r\nP. S. Sorry for huge STL files, unable to reduce them during export from Autodesk 123D Design.
