Yinsylim earned his fame slaying the Lich Kelathar who had cursed Duskweave Isle. Though with the Lich arising once again seven years later, Yinsylim found his ego shaken. He became obsessed with Lich’s after, travelling Tharador to find and slay any more that might remain. This took him to Mammoth Isle, where he found Thirazar, a forgotten human necromancer from the Second Era that had been frozen in ice, yet not dead to reanimate in his phylactery. When Yinsylim tried to slay the Lich, he was killed, finding himself resurrected soon after and under the creature’s spell, having his mind and heart corrupted to become a Knight of Thirazar’s. Yinsylim Lichbane is a name that holds reverence across almost any land in Tharador. Almost everyone knows of the Hero of Duskweave, who slew the Lich Kelathar with a single smiting strike and lifted the curse of Duskweave Isle. So when Kelathar rose again after this death seven years later, many questioned the integrity of Yinsylim, including himself. Was he a false hero? Hundreds more died on Kelathar’s reemergence, and it weighed heavily on Yinsylim as his own failure. Thus he became withdrawn, shutting himself within libraries and reading the histories of known liches and necromancers, swearing an Oath that he would not rest until every resting necromancer’s bones were turned to ash and any that had become Liches were struck down by him and permanently destroyed. None would return to life had he the power to make it so. Thus in Velandria’s Cathedral of Erdrydion he studied, absorbed in knowledge forbidden from most. There he learnt of a Necromancer named Thomas Bazaar who had been exiled from each one of the Draksborne Empire’s magic schools for his practice of Dark Arts, and adopted the moniker of Tyrin Thirazar to study after his expulsions. It was said he had enthralled the dead in a village in Greypeak some years later, forcing them to do busywork and aid in his experiments within his hidden lab. When he was discovered, Thomas was chased from the settlement with pitchforks and torches when he was found out. Only one old dusty book mentioned a wizard called Thirazar who was said to be a healer in Mammoth Isle during the middle of the Second Era. Yinsylim tired of reading after this fact, it was never something he was fond of, he instead chose to take action. He chartered a vessel to take him the long journey from Velandria to Mammoth Isle in Tharador’s far north. There he trudged through the cold tundra in search of where the necromancer might be resting, though in his mind whispers seemed to both taunt and guide him until he found the ruins of Koneya Dura, a destroyed Colossal fortress built into the side of a cliff face. Inside he found Thirazar, encased within a thick layer of ice, though the whispers only grew stronger from within. With his sword Yinsylim struck at the ice, shattering it and knocking Yinsylim unconscious in a blinding explosion of entrapped magic. When he awoke, his will was not his own. His body moved against him and his flesh was seared and sliced: he had been killed. Though in front stood the frozen Lich, skeletal and horrific to behold. Yinsylim became his puppet since, and used the Paladin’s great powers to lay waste to the remote settlements of Mammoth Isle and build Thirazar an army worthy of conquering Tharador.
