Deadbolt Cover
thingiverse
Our playful 10-month-old puppy (as seen above) has mastered the skill of opening doors by grasping the handle. Recently, she discovered that she can also unlock the deadbolt to escape by pawing at it in a specific way. Her growing separation anxiety drove her to learn this trick on her own. Fortunately, we caught her in the act as she was making a break for the stairs when we first realized what she had learned. To prevent our curious puppy from exploiting her new skill, we decided to create a deadbolt cover using 3D printing technology. This innovative solution allows for a convenient ~100-degree opening that enables users to lock or unlock the deadbolt without removing the protective cover. The design is adaptable and can be secured with glue or double-sided tape, making it easy to install. We opted for this unique approach instead of replacing the door handle with a traditional knob, as it was more fun and challenging to solve the problem creatively. Thinking outside the box always yields exciting results.
