Dead Christ
myminifactory
This work by Italian artist Guido Mazzoni, born Modena circa 1450 and dying in 1518, showcases a powerful portrayal of the head of the Dead Christ. It's possible that this fragment was part of an overall figure used to depict a group scene, highlighting Mazzoni's expertise in crafting intricate sculptural groups throughout his lifetime. In fact, he's best known for his Adoration of the Shepherds in Modena Cathedral, as well as his Compiantos, which includes the deposition and lamentation over the dead Christ - it's likely that this work was intended to be a part of such a scene. The artwork originates from Venice and was once housed in the Chiesa di Sant'Antonio di Castello before being donated to Fondazione Breda in 1907.
