Named "The Seven Provinces," the vessel directly referenced the Dutch Republic's status as a federation of seven autonomous regions.During its tenure in service, De Zeven Provincien played pivotal roles as Admiral Michiel de Ruyter's flagship in various conflicts. The ship distinguished itself by withstanding rigorous combat conditions, including partial mast damage incurred during the intense Four Days Fight. The war-torn vessel continued to operate under Ruyter's command during the Third Anglo-Dutch War (1672-1673), seeing action at pivotal battles like the Battle of Solebay, both encounters at Schooneveld and a remarkable performance at Texel.De Zeven Provincien faced another phase of battle during the Grand Alliance war in 1692 when it was partially disarmed, now boasting only 76 guns. Its extensive involvement led to critical injuries suffered during combat at Barfleur and La Hogue in 1692; these severely impaired the vessel, prompting De Zeven Provincien's dismantlement in 1694 for irreparable repairs to take place, ending its distinguished military service with honors accumulated from past triumphs in fierce sea battles.
