De Dion Autorail Automotrice - Old Diesel FR railcar
thingiverse
De Dion was a pioneering French automobile manufacturer that branched out to build trains during the tumultuous decades of the 1920s and 1940s. Across various regions in France, unique railcars were developed, each with distinct characteristics. These early models drew inspiration from buses, which wasn't surprising given their similarities. Narrow-gauge tracks were typically used for these vintage trains, and the model in question is designed to fit the O scale, though it might require some slight reduction to accommodate On30. Notably, this particular train runs smoothly on standard HO tracks. Two distinct variations of what I refer to as the "nose" or engine compartment have been crafted. As built, this is essentially a dummy model train that requires two additional HO axles for functionality. To enhance its authenticity, I've designed specific parts to seamlessly integrate with mechanical components from affordable Lima production models (as seen in the attached image), and others tailored specifically for my personal use. The files provided are geared towards creating a dummy version of this vintage train. Interestingly, my De Dion model closely mirrors the dimensions of Magic Train by Fleischmann. However, real-life vehicles of this era were generally longer than their scale models suggest. The square-nosed variant bears a striking resemblance to "Le Petit Anjou," while the other is reminiscent of railcars from Aude county. A final image shows a meticulously handcrafted metal model of the De Dion by M. Ménard, on display at the muséum in Angers, France (49).
