In the 1970s, Light Infantry units battled it out in Asia's dense jungles. Like other uniforms, their jungle warfare garb was tailored specifically to thrive in those harsh environments. Each soldier donned a canvas hat equipped with vents to keep sweat at bay and prevent overheating. A floppy brim helped camouflage them seamlessly into the surroundings. The hat boasted a brightly colored band that allowed soldiers to radio ahead to camp and indicate which color-coded teams were returning, making it easier for their comrades to stay connected. A 'sweat scarf' was worn around the neck to keep moisture away from the skin. Long-sleeved shirts kept biting insects at bay by shielding exposed skin. Trousers prioritized comfort above all else, eliminating restrictive belts that dug into the waist and made movement difficult. However, a belt holding a soldier's trusty machete would still be worn snugly around the waist for added security. Designed with spacious pockets to store vital maps, trousers were tucked into rugged canvas boots engineered specifically for warm climates. After the Vietnam War, boots with reinforced metal plates embedded through the soles became standard issue to provide enhanced protection against landmines and other hazards.
