He wanted to be a dentist but had no knowledge about electric stuff at all. It was quite challenging to invent something on an old and proven concept like the electric motor. But I was impressed by his ideas, found some problems with the concept, and after discussing it, we came up with this motor. We couldn't find a similar type of motor on the market, so we decided to make a prototype. Please let me know in comments if this concept of motor is described somewhere. Idea: The difference from conventional motors is that the rotor goes directly through the coil. It works like a rounded coil gun, but with the end of the coil connected back to the start point. This gives us an advantage because the rotor magnet crosses the center of the coil where the highest magnetic force is created. Conventional motors just pass around the coil, which has a problem: the coil must be wound in a small length to have the center close to the magnet. A short coil means more layers, and this equals more length of magnet wire, which results in less efficiency. So we think that our motor should be more efficient. We started with a two-pole motor and then made this four-pole one I am sharing here. The four-pole has many advantages. Please read my instructables where I will try to explain all the details and our thinking. This motor also has disadvantages when it comes to construction and complexity, but I see big advantages in combining this motor with planetary gear or in applications without output gear like gyro stabilization. 3D print technology really helped us bring this to life. Future improvements: Two part wheels have to be glued together; a redesign will improve functionality. Optical gate to switch coils instead of mechanical switches. Redesign the wheel to output shafts, do a planetary gear on one output shaft. More poles. Material needed: 4x 10x15x4 bearings A bunch of 12x2 neodymium magnets M3 screws and nuts Coated wire for windings (magnet wire) Super glue Print parts at the amounts written in part name. Print Settings: Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker 2 Rafts: No Supports: No Infill: 30 Notes: Normal PLA.
