Day#74: Floppy disk

The first Floppy disk ever, in its original 8 inches size, was created by engineer David L. Noble and his team at IBM under direction of Alan F. Shugart. They began working on it in 1967, and the floppy disks became a reality in 1971 as part of IBM products before being sold separately starting in 1972 by Memorex and others. The prolific Japanese inventor Yoshiro Nakamatsu claims to have invented the floppy disk and licensed its patents to IBM Corp in 1979. This 8-inch Floppy disk had a storage capacity of 80KB! It's hard to believe you could only store a single tiny MP3 song there or maybe just a couple of small TXT files. What a difference times make! You would need 200,000 floppy disks to have the same capacity as a simple 16Gb pen-drive.
