Davinci Extruder Fan Shroud
thingiverse
The original extruder fan on the Davinci is somewhat lacking in efficiency, so I created a shroud to enhance its limited performance. UPDATE The Extended Version replaces the finger-guard and securely fastens into place using those screws, which effectively stops all escaping air and adds a more streamlined look to the installation. You don't need to remove anything for the standard shroud; it simply slides on (you might need to trim around the fan hole, depending on how accurate your print is). Additionally, there's a hole above the filament stepper motor that needs blocking, or as you can see in some of my photos, you can place another 5v fan there and connect it in parallel with the normal fan. The stock fan blows air over the extruder heatsink then down onto the part; in reality, there's a considerable amount of ducting guiding the air onto the part, so I'm experimenting with a centrifugal fan blowing through the top of the extruder over the stepper motor. There is actually quite a lot of air now... lets see if it can be utilized as a layer fan if it's controlled properly. There are several other extruder fan shrouds on Thingiverse; I haven't copied them, in fact they're what encouraged me to make my own (I want this very simple to manufacture and install). I wouldn't say mine is superior to others here (in reality there are some that look really good but alter the airflow direction, try http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:824926 for more information); we are all trying to improve this low-cost printer! Any feedback would be appreciated! It's a very easy print, with no additional cooling necessary!
