This is a remix of http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:409100. A modified XYZprinter that can accept alternative cartridges is assumed. The original cartridge holder by Ranh316 was insufficient for the large diameter spools I use, so I built on his concept using larger parts. Spools used here have an inside diameter of 59mm. These are 2LB spools from eBay. The new holder is reinforced to handle increased weight. Bearings and end caps for the cartridge were created to reduce friction and allow a centered rotation point, rather than dragging the cartridge across a rounded surface. A hex recess was added to the holder base to fit a 4" bolt which then goes through two bearing blocks that secure and stabilize the spool. The top cover of the printer requires a small cutout to keep filament from slipping underneath. I considered adding a retainer clip, but binding issues in previous designs made a hole more effective. Thread filament into the cartridge from the right as shown in attached images. Additional components needed include a 4" hex head bolt with 1/4x20 threading, two 1/4x20 nuts, optional washers. Bearing specifications are 5/8 OD x 1/4 ID. Bearings require pressing in place; a vice or bearing press can facilitate this task. Two copies of the bearing block must be printed.
