David-Apollo
myminifactory
This full-figure plaster sculpture originates from Michelangelo's abandoned marble work, dating back to approximately 1530, now standing in Florence at the Bargello Museum. Speculated titles abound, as there is no consensus on whom it is supposed to depict. In 1530, while working on this piece, Michelangelo began a small marble of David but soon abandoned it and attempted to transform it into a classical depiction of Apollo, leaving it unfinished. The serpentine pose of the nude figure has led many to believe that the right arm rests in a sling over his back, similar to Michelangelo's famous David. A 1553 inventory of Cosimo I's art collection even describes it as "an incomplete David by Buonarroti." Further information is available online.
