Dave's Modified AO Z-Upper Mount
thingiverse
Enthusiastically, I adopted zerocool5878's tweaked AO Z Upper end for my printer. However, I found one of my Z rods was slightly off-kilter, requiring careful chiseling to rectify. This modified design allows the mount to slide and adjust plumb effortlessly. To maintain rigidity from the original, I added a diagonal brace and sliding portions into aluminum extrusions. Now, I'm using these improved versions on my Mendelmax printer. To implement this upgraded part, simply print and install. If you prefer OpenSCAD, use the STL file (thing 26771) as basis for your modifications, though it's not overly parametric. For 8mm rods, consider using the original AO object's STL from which zerocool5878's version was derived - I have not personally tried this, though. The part installs by sliding into upper rails' ends and securing with top screws. No longer are there screws driven into rail ends. Don't forget to acquire rod clamps from the original part.
