Dassault Super Mystere B2 / IAI Sa'ar Developed from the Dassault Mystere IV, it is Europe's first supersonic fighter in level flight and first equipped with afterburner capabilities. The Armee de l'Air was the only military branch to operate this aircraft from 1958 to 1977. The Israeli Air Force also used it during the Six-Days War. In 1967, Israel Aerospace Industries modified the Sambad by replacing its original Atar engine with a Pratt & Whitney J52-P-8A, similar to that of the A-4H Skyhawk. This new engine was lighter and more powerful without afterburner capabilities. This upgrade allowed for two additional load points to be added at the root of the wings, increasing the total payload capacity. The combat radius also increased with this modification. The main difference between the original aircraft and the modified Sa'ar is its elongated exhaust pipe, which reduces visibility to infrared missiles. Redesigned as an attacker rather than a fighter, the new aircraft was called Sa'ar (Storm) and served with the Israeli Air Force from 1969 to 1975. It saw heavy action during the Yom Kippur War. Honduras became the last user of the Sa'ars, purchasing 12 aircraft in 1976. These planes fought in a border war against Nicaragua until 1996.
