Dash panel gromet (Toyota?)
thingiverse
I was tasked with replicating a dash panel component from a mid-90s Suzuki or Toyota vehicle, specifically focusing on the plastic pop-in grommet part. However, upon examining the design, it became apparent that a larger cube would be necessary for longer pop-in ears to ensure a snug fit - the current dimensions fell short in this regard. Furthermore, I should have opted for a solid design instead of replicating the injection molded hollow structure used in the original part. In an effort to improve upon this initial attempt, I suggest revisiting the design using OpenSCAD and implementing modifications to enhance its overall functionality. It's essential to note that proper printing parameters must be employed to achieve optimal results - running the ABS at a temperature of around 255C and ensuring sufficient layer adhesion through the use of an adequate percentage is crucial. Additionally, post-processing techniques such as soaking in acetone can also play a vital role in strengthening the printed layers, which in turn contributes to the overall durability and longevity of the component.
